White Chinas
My White Chinas are a combination of birds I bought from Roland Doerr and infused western blood in a separate mating. I have two breeding pens, however have both male and female lines in that pen. They can be very prolific unfortunately I cannot hatch geese well. I generaly hatch about 30% of the eggs that are produced so that is why I set about 100 eggs per season. I am trying to improve on my ability to hatch goslings artificially.
I am now able to buy a duck/goose breeder pellet from a local feed mill. After reading the info on the feed tag I saw that the chicken feed I was feeding was 1/3 higher in calcium then the duck breeder. My thoughts are that this is why I have had lower hatcehs in my ducks and geese, the shells are just too hard for them to get to. I am planning on artificially incubating all waterfowl except Muscovies this year to see if my hatches improve. n past years, I have thrown out LOTS of fertile eggs that developed completely but did not hatch .
These Chinas have been Class Champions at Stockton, Ventura and Tucson many times beating out the Browns. They are a light weight goose and very easy to handle and transport. There is only a handful of us in the U.S. that have a true exhibition line of Whites.
The hen pictured was Champion Light Goose at the 2007 Ventura Show.
